Welling is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 771 at the 2010 census, an increase of 15.25 percent from 669 at the 2000 census. It is home to The Salvation Army's Heart o' Hills camp and conference center.Welling is located along the eastern border of Cherokee County at 35°51′0″N 94°50′31″W / 35.85000°N 94.84194°W / 35.85000; -94.84194. It is bordered to the north by Eldon, to the west by Park Hill, to the south by Tenkiller, and to the east by Adair County. Tahlequah, the Cherokee County seat, is 7 miles to the northwest by Welling Road.According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 29.6 square miles, of which 29.5 square miles is land and 0.15 square miles, or 0.50%, is water.As of the census of 2000, there were 669 people, 247 households, and 187 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 22.6 people per square mile.
